The three core strategic functions of our Governing Body are:

1.To monitor and uphold the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.

Defining the school values, vision and aims, to discuss, agree and continually evaluate strategic plans and policies. To have an input into school development plans, to include curriculum development, which cover the school’s immediate future and show the longer term progress the school will make over the next three to five years.

2. To act as a critical friend supporting the Head Teacher, to ensure optimal educational performance of the school.

Supporting the Headteacher and staff, as well as constructively challenging and building on their expectations to ensure the best possible outcomes for children are achieved.

3. To oversee the management of the financial resources of the school ensuring a balanced budget within current financial regulations.

Governors answer for their decisions and the school performance to key stakeholders- parents, carers, and staff. To achieve this they work closely with the Headteacher to ensure a cycle of continual improvement.  Governors are individually linked with School Development Plan priorities and undertake regular visits to school relating to their specific responsibilities.

Governance arrangement:

Our Governing Body has 13 members and consists of 2 parent governors, 2 staff governors (including the Head Teacher), a Local Authority governor and 7 co-opted governors. The term of office of all governors is four years.

The Full Governing Body meet three times annually. There are three sub-committees who meet termly; Finance & Personnel, Health and Safety/Buildings and Sites, Curriculum & Standards. Each Governor is assigned to one of these committees, depending on their area of interest and/or expertise. All Governors are informed about what happens at these sub-committee meetings.

Minutes of Full Governing Body and Committee meetings are public documents and are available from the school office.

Governing Body Strategic Vision

The school will provide the very highest standard of education that will prepare the children for the next stage of their learning. Sound financial planning will enable the school to serve its community and to continue to innovate and develop its educational provision.

The Governing Body will measure the progress of the school achieving this aim by the use of the following statements:

Quality of Education

• A broad, balanced and child centred curriculum which inspires, excites and develops children’s love and enthusiasm for learning.
• The highest quality teaching and learning opportunities provided for each and every child.

• Outcomes for all groups of pupils which exceed national averages (although the Governing Body recognises the potential for cohort reflected dips).

Behaviours and Attitudes 

• A safe, calm and nurturing environment that is responsive to the needs of all learners, staff and stakeholders.
• High attendance rates for all groups of children which exceed national expectations. 
• Children’s exceptional behaviour is maintained through consistently high quality teaching, excellent staff-pupil relationships and clear procedures.

Personal Development 

• Children are happy and engaged at school. 
• The school continues to serve and to be involved in its local community.
• There is a positive working environment for staff and pupils.
• Children are encouraged to gain an understanding of their rights and responsibilities as global citizens.
• The wider curriculum offer is of the highest quality and contributes to each child’s cultural capital
